ESL (English as a Second Language)

Is English not your first language?  Are you wanting to learn the English language or improve on the English you already know?  DACC offers classes where you can practice speaking, listening, reading and writing to improve your skills at no cost.  This is a very relaxed classroom atmosphere with a primary objective of developing a meaning or basic comprehension of English.  A major portion of the class time is devoted to listening and speaking exercises.  This class is open to anyone sixteen years of age or older.  This is a very fun class using everyday activities!

ESL classes are offered in the Fall and Spring semesters.  Classes are FREE to those living in College District #507.  Tuition is charged for those living outside of District #507.

CITIZENSHIP

Citizenship classes are offered during the Fall and Spring semesters.  This course prepares local residents for passing the US Department of Immigration and Naturalization (INS) test that will lead to becoming American citizens.  Eligibility requirements include:  Permanent U.S. resident for at least five years, or at least three years if married to a U.S. citizen (must include documentation).  To enter classes,  student must score at a specific level as determined by adult education testing.

Enseñanza para Adultos: Inglés como Idioma Secundario

Instrucción básica en escuchar, hablar, leer y escribir inglés para los que no hablan inglés como idioma materno. El contenido del curso cubre la estructura, la pronunciación, el desarrollo del vocabulario, la lectura y las habilidades de la escritura. El objetivo principal del curso es desarrollar una comprensión del idioma con una porción importante de tiempo de la clase dedicada a los ejercicios de escuchar y discutir. Los libros para el curso se proporcionan. No hay costos directos para el estudiante.

  • ESL Intemedio
  • ESL Avanzado

Se determina la colocación por el gravamen oral y/o la prueba estandardizada de colocación.

Adult Education English as a Secondary Language

Basic instruction in listening, speaking, reading and writing English for those who do not speak English as a first language. The course content covers structure, pronunciation, vocabulary development, reading and writing skills. The main objective of the course is to develop an understanding of the language with a significant portion of class time devoted to exercises devoted to listening and discussing. The books for the course are provided. There is no direct cost to the student.

Specific Program Courses include:

  • Beginning ESL
  • Intermediate ESL
  • Advanced ESL

Placement is determined by the oral assessment and / or standardized placement test.
