DACC Community:

With updated guidance from the CDC (Centers for Disease Control), and from the Governor’s office and the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), Danville Area Community College is revising the campus mask requirement.

Effective Monday, May 24, fully vaccinated individuals will no longer be required to wear a mask while on campus. Additionally, all college entrance doors will be unlocked and open for your convenience.

Unvaccinated employees, students, and visitors should continue to wear a mask while on campus. Disposable masks will be available at stations throughout campus for those who do not have one with them. The college will rely on the integrity of our students and colleagues to wear a mask—or not—based on your individual vaccine status.

This policy update is consistent with the latest information from the CDC and IDPH that indicates that the COVID-19 vaccine provides effective protection against the virus and allows those vaccinated to remove their masks in most settings.

Some settings that serve individuals under the age of 12, such as the DACC Child Development Center and College for Kids classes/activities, and clinical sites will continue to require masks regardless of vaccine status per guidance specific to those settings.

For the past 15 months, DACC leadership and the COVID Action Response Team (CART) have followed guidance from the authoritative sources to develop and implement our campus safety protocols. We are thankful for the strong partnership we enjoy with the Vermilion County Health Department, who was so helpful in interpreting the science and policies as they were modified throughout the pandemic.

According to the latest data from IDPH, more than 4.6 million Illinois residents are fully vaccinated, including 64% of residents over the age of 18. Locally, multiple vaccine clinics are now available for residents 12-17 years of age. This is an important milestone in the arc of the pandemic and provides much-awaited flexibility for vaccinated individuals.

If you have not already done so, we strongly suggest that you make a plan to receive a vaccine, for both your health and the flexibility it now provides while you’re on campus. Information about local vaccine clinics is available on the Vermilion County Health Department website.

We understand that masks have become an integral part of our daily lives and that moving away from masking might come more readily for some than others. Please respect the choices of others in the coming weeks and months, recognizing that individuals may be wearing or not wearing masks for a variety of reasons. Whether you are fully vaccinated or wearing a mask, you are doing your part to keep our campus community healthy.
