Teaching Philosophy
I want to make my classroom a place where students feel comfortable exploring new concepts, making mistakes and learning how to think like a scientist. I recognize that each student will have a different background and skill set, which necessitate the use of a variety of learning tools and techniques, such as online resources, hands-on laboratory experiments or peer teaching. Since chemistry, like all sciences, is used every day outside of a classroom setting, I find that it is important to share the real-world applications for the concepts we learn in class with the students. Hopefully, once leaving our classroom, students have not only a greater appreciation and lessened fear of chemistry but have the confidence to approach unfamiliar ideas and difficult subjects by using the tools and problem solving skills they learned in my classroom.
