How to Prepare for a Tutoring Session

The MASS Center provides a valuable service to the student population of DACC, and we are pleased to offer it. We provide a safe, comfortable environment for students. We hope you have a successful tutoring session!

How to Prepare for a Tutoring Session:

  • You are expected to arrive ON TIME for each session
  • You should have books, lecture notes, syllabi, and assignments with you
  • You should read and attempt any assigned material prior to coming to the tutoring center.   This will help you and the tutor to focus on the aspects of the assignment/class that are giving you difficulty.
  • Be as specific as possible about the area(s) you don’t understand and/or the problem(s) you are having.   Walk-ins and appointments are 20 minutes in length so being as specific and organized as possible should yield a productive session. Please be patient. Tutors are available to help you, but they may not always have all the answers. It could take time to give you an answer to your problem (depending on the complexity of the problem).
  • Please be aware if a particular tutor “match” is not working out; different students have different learning styles and each tutor “instructs” differently.   You may check the schedule on the webpage to check if another tutor is available.
  • Please do not wait until the last minute to request help in your subject.
  • Please be courteous to your tutor and to the other students who might be working in the tutoring area.   Unruly conduct will not be tolerated.
  • If you arrive more than 5 minutes late, your appointment will be made available for walk-ins. If your time is given away, you will be considered a no-show. If your time is still available, a late arrival form will be put in your file.
  • Appointments made on the same day are expected to be kept; otherwise, you will be considered a no-show.
  • If you have 3 no-shows/late appointments, you will be blocked from making an appointment for up to one month and any scheduled appointments will be canceled.
