DACC Community Education Offering Fitness Over 50 Classes

Danville Area Community College’s Community Education department is offering several classes and trips for Spring 2023. For a complete listing of classes with course description visit https://dacccommunityed.coursestorm.com/

Below are the FITNESS OVER 50 classes being offered this spring:

• Aerobics classes are held from 9-10AM on Tuesday and Thursday on the DACC campus in the Clock Tower Center Vermilion Room. Glenda Brooks is the instructor. Cost is $25 each sessions.
 Session 1 dates: March 2-30
 Session 2 dates: April 4-27
 Session 3 dates: May 2-30

Aerobic exercise keeps your muscles strong, which can help you maintain mobility as you get older. Exercise can also lower the risk of falls and injuries from falls in older adults. And it can improve your quality of life. Aerobic exercise also keeps your mind sharp.

• Chair Yoga classes are held from 8:30-9:30AM on Monday, Wednesday and Friday on the DACC campus in the Clock Tower Center Vermilion Room. Glenda Brooks is the instructor. Cost is $25 each session.
 Session 1 dates: March 6-31
 Session 2 dates: April 3-31(no class on April 7 or April 10).
 Session 3 dates: May 1-June 2

This gentle form of yoga is practiced sitting on a chair or using a chair for support during standing poses. Chair yoga is especially suitable for older adults, people with balance or coordination issues, and those with disabilities. Chair yoga helps increase flexibility, lung capacity, circulation and strength, Improves balance and relieves stress. The class incorporates breathing exercises, stretching, yoga postures, and final relaxation.

• Tai Chi classes are held from 10:30-11:30AM on Wednesday on the DACC campus in the Clock Tower Center Vermilion Room. Daniel Hall is a certified Veterans Administration retired professional bringing you health and wellness through these low impact exercises. Cost is $25 each session.

Tai chi is a practice that involves a series of slow gentle movements and physical postures, a meditative state of mind, and controlled breathing. Tai chi originated as an ancient martial art in China. Over the years, it has become more focused on health promotion and rehabilitation.

• Nei-Gong classes are held from 5-6PM on Wednesday on the DACC campus in the Clock Tower Center Vermilion Room. Daniel Hall is a certified Veterans Administration retired professional bringing you health and wellness through these low impact exercises. Cost is $25 each session.

Neigong (pronounced ‘nay gong’ or ‘nae gong’) means “internal skill”, “internal development”, or “internal work”. Neigong (sometimes written as Nei Gong), is an 3,000 year old, “secret” Chinese practice. The focus is on opening and strengthening the deepest energy channels to help your body move better, faster, stronger and improving your stamina that works for both internal and external martial arts practitioners. First, one must develop the body’s efficiency, then develop the energy system (opening channels to increase Qi efficiency), and last but not least, develop the mind’s capabilities.

DACC’s Community Education department is offering several classes and trips for Spring 2023 in computer, life long learning, arts and hobbies, cooking, day trips, Lunch & Learn Wellness Wednesday’s, Lunch & Learns, staying active, and classes for Boomers & Seniors.
