COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course stresses basic fitness principles including basic components of fitness training; proper techniques for weight lifting; and the development of muscles, strength, endurance, and flexibility. Each student will progress at a rate commensurate with their ability. Weight training techniques for sports such as basketball, baseball and softball will be emphasized.

STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES:
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
  • Demonstrate improved physical fitness through pre- and post- physical assessment of flexibility, muscular strength, and muscular endurance
  • Operate weight training equipment using basic safety measures and spotting techniques as measured by a competency checklist
  • Demonstrate proper record keeping skills by maintaining exercise records that detail workout sessions
  • Demonstrate the basic component of a workout (warm up, stretching, lifting, and cool down) by providing an outline of a weight training workout that meets the student’s individual goals
