DACC Offers Six New Bachelor’s Degrees with SIU

DACC students have a new way to earn a bachelor’s degree without leaving the DACC campus or the comfort of home.

DACC Names 17 Student Ambassadors “All Star Jaguars”

Danville Area Community College announced the selection of 17 students who will serve as student ambassadors on campus and in social media and will feature in the College’s promotional efforts. The students, known as All Star Jaguars, were selected through an application and interview/Casting Call process during the early weeks of the semester.

The students represent diverse backgrounds, academic programs, and life situations but have an enthusiasm for DACC in common. Each team member brings a unique perspective to the student experience.

DACC HIRES VP OF ACADEMICS

Danville Area Community College has hired a new leader for its education programs.

During its Sept. 23 meeting, the DACC Board of Trustees approved the hiring of Dr. Carl Bridges as vice president of academic affairs. In this role, Dr. Bridges will oversee the work of deans and faculty in all forms of teaching and learning in classrooms, labs, and online, on both the Danville Campus and the Hoopeston Learning Center. He will also be responsible for managing library services and classes at the Danville Correctional Center.

DACC Tutor Wins State Spotlight Award

Secretary of State and State Librarian Jesse White announced the winners of the 2021 Spotlight on Literacy Awards, which recognize participants in Illinois literacy programs. Statewide, 10 students and 10 volunteers were honored for their achievements. One of those honorees, Ann Vogel, Oakwood, has been a tutor for Danville Area Community College’s Reader’s Route program for the past eight years.

A Banner Year for DACC Student-Athletes

The Danville Area Community College baseball team hit the high-water mark of 28 wins during the 2020-21 season. The DACC softball team was close behind with 24 victories. The Covid-shortened season also saw the improving men’s and women’s basketball teams split a dozen wins. The DACC men’s and women’s cross-country teams and the golf teams showed steady improvement—with DACC’s two-year-old women’s squad celebrating the emergence of Mac-kenzie McCoy to compete in the national-championship golf tournament in Daytona, Florida.

Remembering Earl Snyder

Back in 1987, David and Leland Snyder created the Earl Snyder Family Achievement Award in honor of their father. Earl was born in Indianola in 1902 and helped found Jamaica High School in 1955. The scholarship was earmarked for Jamaica High graduates.

DACC LISTS HONOR STUDENTS FOR SPRING 2021

Danville Area Community College has released a list of its honor students for the Spring 2021 Semester.
 
A student must carry 12 or more credit hours and a straight A (4.0) average on a 4.0 scale to be included on the President’s List. To be included on the Honor’s List, a student must carry 12 or more credit hours and have a B+ (3.5) grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

Volunteers Needed to Join the Ranks of DACC's Literacy Tutors - Help an adult learn to read

Did you know that one in every five adults has difficulty reading the newspaper, the instructions on a medicine bottle, or a note from their child’s teacher? There are more than  20 million adults in the United States -- hundreds locally – who share this problem. Literacy tutors are needed to assist these adults in improving their reading skills.
