DACC Extends Spring Break for Students

Spring Break begins Monday, March 16, 2020, for DACC students. DACC Spring Break has been extended from Monday, March 16 through Friday, March 27.

Danville Area Community College is committed to the health and well-being of its faculty, staff, and students. During this extended Spring Break, the following steps will be taken to mitigate the effects of the Coronavirus pandemic on learning activities:

There will be no classes held at the main Danville campus or the Hoopeston Higher Learning Center March 16-20. Faculty and staff will report as usual.

DACC's Volunteer Tutor Training Scheduled - Help an adult learn to read

Did you know that one in every five adults has difficulty reading the newspaper, the instructions on a medicine bottle, or a note from their child’s teacher? There are more than  20 million adults in the United States -- hundreds locally – who share this problem. Literacy tutors are needed to assist these adults in improving their reading skills.

DACC to Host National Tournament for 27th Year

Danville Area Community College and the city of Danville will again host the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II Men’s National Basketball Tournament at the DACC campus March 17-21, 2020. Tournament pairings will not be available until later in March. The top 8 teams will be seeded by the Division II Men’s Basketball Committee via teleconference once all district champions are determined. The remaining 8 teams will be placed on the bracket by blind draw. Each college will play a minimum of two games in the tournament.

WYSE Winners Announced

Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering Competition
Held at DACC
11 High Schools Competed

Danville Area Community College hosted the Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering Regional competition, a test of aptitudes in Mathematics and Science, on February 4, 2020.  The 41st regional competition was sponsored by the Math, Sciences & Health Professions Division at Danville Area Community College.

DACC Black History Month Events

Danville Area Community College is celebrating Black History Month with three special events - Black History: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow.

The first event is Yesterday - Black History in Our Community will be held on Wednesday, February 12 at 9AM in the DACC Bremer Conference Center. Join us as we listen to the history of some of Danville's most prominent residents. A soul food tasting with Mary Lewis will follow the presentation.

DACC Hosts Eagle Day - Public Encouraged to Attend

Danville Area Community College is going to the birds. DACC will host a program presented by the Office of Wildlife Learning World Bird Sanctuary of St. Louis. This biennial event will be held in the Mary Miller Gymnasium on the campus of Danville Area Community College on Wednesday, Feburary 5, 2020 at 9AM and again at 12:30PM. The event is co-sponsored by the Middlefork Audubon Society.

DACC Health Professions & Engineering Day

Danville Area Community College (DACC) is offering sophomores from local high school districts an opportunity to explore careers in engineering and health professions. Both Engineering Day and Health Professions Day will be hosted on Friday, February 21, 2020, from 9-11AM. High school students will visit three different workshops, each featuring a different career pathway in either engineering or health professions.

DACC to Host WYSE Academic Challenge for Area High School Students

Danville Area Community College will host the 40th annual Regional Academic Challenge competition, Tuesday, February 4, 2020, in the Mary Miller Gymnasium. Eleven area school districts are expected to send participants to this year’s competition.

DACC Film Festival for African American History Month

Danville Area Community College’s Liberal Arts Division will be hosting a Film Festival for African American History Month.

The first film showing is Slavery by Another Name on Monday, February 10 from 2:30-5:30PM in Bremer Theater. This documentary sheds light on post-Civil War labor practices and challenges the myth that slavery ended with Emancipation Proclamation.

The second film is 13th on Monday, February 24 from 2:30-5:30PM in Bremer Theater. This documentary explores the big issues in corrections today, including race and mass incarceration.
