        I. COURSE DESCRIPTION:

        A review of the fundamental topics of algebra, including the real and complex number systems,
        simplification and manipulation of algebraic expressions involving polynomials, rational
        exponents, radicals, and fractions, and the solution of linear and quadratic equations and
        inequalities. Emphasis is placed on the study of the following functions: linear, quadratic,
        polynomial, rational, exponential, and logarithmic and their applications. These will be
        explored using traditional graphing techniques and also using the graphing utility Mathematica.
        Credit is not given for both MATH 111 and MATH 112.

II. TEXTBOOK AND MATERIALS:
      A.  College Algebra, Fourth Edition, by Mark Dugopolski, Published by Addison-Wesley, 2006.
             Chapter P,  Chapters 1-4,  and topics from Chapters 5 and 6.
      B.  Usage of Mathematica software in MMC-206 occasionally.
      C.  Calculator (Graphics calculator desirable, but not required ).

III. EVALUATION:
      A.  5 hourly exams are given during the semester. These examinations determine 45% of the grade.
      B.  A comprehensive final exam is given which accounts for 30% of the grade.

      C.  In class homework accounts for 25% of the grade.
      D.  Progress during course.
      E.  Class participation.
      F.  Determination of grade is according to the following scale:
                        A = 90% -100%;
                        B = 80% -  89%;
                        C = 70% -  79%;
                        D = 60% -  69%;
                        F < 59%.
