DHS
was created on July 1, 1997, when three human service agencies
and parts of three others were consolidated into one agency.This merger brought Illinois’ human service programs under one roof and
ensured the people of Illinois access to a wide variety of coordinated programs.At the same time, the merger saved the taxpayers of Illinois more than
$1.3 million in redirected administrative costs.
