Library Web Page: www.dacc.edu/library
Includes: The library catalog, I-Share, full text article databases (EbscoHost, Lexis-Nexis)
and many other general and subject-specific online resources (dictionaries, encyclopedias, etc.). The library page also
has "how to use/tutorial" pages, and guides to other web sources. Library online resources can be used both on and off
campus (from home or another computer lab). Librarians are available by phone, email, IM, or in person to help you
find the sources you need and show to show you how to use the online or print resources.
Library Cards:
DACC students are issued a college ID card each semester, which (with a
library barcode sticker attached), becomes a library card. You will need
to use the card to order interlibrary loan books from the catalog, and
you must have your card with you to check out Library materials or use
the library's computer labs. NOTE: It is the student's responsibility to
notify the library of any changes of address, telephone, name, etc. Most
other Illinois academic libraries (UIUC, EIU, ISU, etc.) will honor your
DACC library card is not accepted for use at public libraries
Reserves Collection:
Instructors often place items on reserve for class use. These are kept behind the Circulation Desk. The online catalog lists
most, but not all, instructor reserve items. Library ID must be shown for check-out.
Interlibrary Loan:
You can use the online catalog (Illinet Online) to find and order, or "request", items not owned at DACC but available
from other academic libraries. Allow time for delivery of interlibrary loan items. Be aware that some other libraries will
charge fines for late return of their materials. Items found in FirstSearch WorldCat global catalog can also be ordered by
interlibrary loan with librarian assistance.
Fines and Restrictions:
DACC library does not charge daily fees for late return of most items. However,
late return fees for reserves, videos, and
interlibrary loan items are charged. When items are so late as to be declared "lost", replacement costs and
processing fees are charged and library privileges are blocked. If overdue or "lost" items are returned in good condition,
processing and item charges are forgiven. PLEASE NOTE: When items incur a charge, a "block" is also placed on your student account
in the cashier's office. Registration for courses cannot be completed, and transcripts will not be issued until the charge
is resolved or materials returned.
Library Instruction:
Learning to use information resources well is a skill that increases your college success and empowers your future. Many instructors
include library tours or instruction in their classes. These sessions are designed for each individual course. Librarians are
also happy to work with individuals as needed. Never hesitate to ask. An 8 week, 2 hour credit elective class,
Library Instruction INST 105, is offered online twice each semester. For more information, call Dr. Ruth Lindemann at
443-8735.
