Membership Requirements for Pi Omega Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa
Danville Area Community College, Danville, Illinois

Full Membership:   Full membership in Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society is based primarily on your academic achievement. To be eligible for full membership in the Pi Omega chapter at Danville Area Community College:

Grades for courses completed within five years at other institutions will be considered when determining membership eligibility.  However, if there has been a break in your educational career, course work taken more than five years ago need not be considered, at the discretion of the Director of Scholars Programs (see contact information below).

Upon acceptance into Pi Omega Chapter, a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25 must be maintained to remain in good standing.  If a member's cumulative GPA drops below 3.25, he or she will be placed on probationary status for one semester. At the end of the probationary semester, if the member's cumulative GPA is at or above 3.25, the member regains "good-standing" status and full membership privileges. If the member fails to regain the minimum required GPA, the member’s name will be removed from both the local and the international roll, and all membership privileges revoked.

Applicants must complete and submit an application form (available from Lori Garrett, Director of Scholars Programs, or from the Student Services Office, Lincoln Hall).  A one-time membership fee of $65 must be paid before full membership is granted.  This fee includes a $43 international fee, a $5 regional fee, and a $15 local chapter fee.  Local fees support the activities of our own chapter and stay on our campus.  Payment plans are available, and arrangements may be made so that the fees are not an obstacle to joining.  Please contact Lori for more information.

Provisional Membership:  Provisional membership may be offered to DACC students who do not yet meet full membership requirements. For provisional membership, a student must have earned a cumulative GPA of at least 3.50 or the equivalent on all course work completed in high school. A student must be currently enrolled in college-credit course work at DACC, adhere to the school conduct code, and enjoy full rights of citizenship in his or her country.  Provisional members pay local chapter dues of $10.00 per academic year, but are not required to pay the international and regional induction fees until they are eligible for full membership.  Provisional membership status is allowed only until 12 hours of college credit are completed, so long as a minimum cumulative GPA of at least 4.50 is maintained.  Upon completion of the required 12 hours of college credit, the Provisional Member's GPA will be reviewed for full eligibility.

Transfer Member:  A member from another Phi Theta Kappa chapter may transfer membership to Pi Omega Chapter if he or she is currently enrolled at Danville Area Community College and meets the 3.25 maintenance GPA.
