My thoughts are as follows: (Bear with me-they're everywhere.) Leadership is defined as the art of motivating a group of people to act towards achieving a common goal. Although I agree with this in a way, I also think that a leader is not born a leader. The shyest, most "weakest" person in someone's eyes may be the world's next biggest leader. Someone who seems more like a follower may be a very effective leader as soon as they gain the confidence that they have the desire and willpower to pursue the obstacle in their way. I also think good leaders are people who constantly inspire the people they are leading to study and learn more about what their passion is. Leadership is not bossing people around, but having the patience and determination to inspire people to follow their dreams.

I think a great leader is also a great servant. All great leaders were not great in themselves but because they served a greater purpose. A great leader does what they know is right, no matter what the status quo says. They are not the source of great power but a conductor who can pass that power on to others.
Also, leaders are NOT those that do not make mistakes. They are those that make mistakes, admit those mistakes, and learn from them. They are human and realizing this, work with the best they have and always have their goals in mind.

I think a great leader is someone that is not afraid to step up to the plate and get things done. I think a great leader is someone who motivates, encourages, and teaches others but also I think in order for a leader to be successful, they need to be approachable, easy to talk to, and think about others needs and preferences. Great leaders also need to be open minded being open to other people's opinions and ideas.

Webster defines a leader as a conductor or director, as of an orchestra band or chorus. I like this definition because once you think about it one realizes each piece of this definition relys on the other. An orchestra could play without a conductor but may be off time or the conductor could stand and conduct but with out the orchestra its meaningless. If everyone would stop and realize that being a leader also means supporting others we would be better off as a society and a country but also realize that each piece has to work together and do its part for anything to succeed or be worth while.

A great leader is someone who is not afraid to do what they may be asking of others. A great leader is someone who makes others feel comfortable in what they are asking, teaching or talking about. A great leader is a person who can pause for a moment and see the other persons point of view. A great leader is someone who presents themselves as being very approachable and available to others. While a great leader should be a great communicator, they should be an even better listener.

What makes a great leader is displayed through their ability to communicate, compromise, inspire, motivate, challenge, and change to fit to new situations that arise within their communities. A great leader is not afraid to evolve or reinvent if the occassion arises to do so. They are also able to recognize when it is prudent to take risks for the benefit of their team. An effective leader will also be highly attentive to those surrounding them and is able to bring out the best in their followers. All of these characteristics will increase the abilities of the organization as a whole and lead the community, organization, or nation to greatness.
