Danville Area Community College is a member institution
of the National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC).
DACC hosts two separate programs for exceptional
students.
Each of these programs offers our best students opportunities to expand their learning and academic experience beyond the confines of the classroom. Both programs are described below. Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society
Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society
is the largest honor society in American higher education, with more than
1.3 million members and 1200 chapters
located in 50 United States, U.S. territories,
Canada, Germany, and Japan. More than 82,000 students are inducted into
Phi Theta Kappa each year.
DACC's award-winning Pi Omega Chapter of
Phi Theta Kappa is quite active on campus, in the community, and in the
region. Admission into this organization requires a minimum cumulative
grade point average (GPA) of at least 4.50 and at least 12 hours of successfully
completed college level course work.
Although the Pi Omega Chapter is very active,
participation in the Chapter's activities are never required. New
members and their guests are invited to attend a Formal Induction ceremony
upon acceptance into the program. Membership is denoted on members'
transcripts. Tremendous opportunities, including impressive scholarships,
are available to Phi Theta Kappa members. Graduates wear gold honors
stoles at graduation and receive gold diploma seals. Phi Theta Kappa's
stellar reputation can open many doors both for future education and employment.

Scholars Program
The DACC Scholars Program is for highly motivated students seeking greater academic challenge. This program allows students to explore areas of personal interest beyond the walls of the traditional classroom through diverse scholars activities and independent study projects designed with instructor approval. Past projects include a model of an Aztec village, a paper about mass murderers, an examination of hypnosis and its role in smoking cessation, a radio internship, a lecture on nontraditional careers for women, classroom lesson preparations, a law enforcement apprenticeship, and an internship at Walt Disney World.
Upon successful completion of the Scholars Program, you will receive:
Because this program requires independent study and participation, membership looks very impressive on scholarship and school applications, and on résumés. In addition, because DACC is a member of the National Collegiate Honors Council, DACC's Scholars Program requirements are accepted by most four-year institutions towards fulfillment of their own Honors Program requirements.
