Online Learning Frequently Asked Questions ▪ Are online classes right for me?Please visit this link. ▪ How do online courses work? An online course is a course conducted over the Internet. You log into your course to access class documents, read announcements, communicate with your instructor and classmates, complete assignments, participate in discussions and group work, and take quizzes and tests. At DACC, most of the online courses are asynchronous, meaning that you do your coursework at whatever time of the day you want. For example, if you want to participate in a class discussion at 2 a.m. in your pajamas, feel free to do so. Some online courses use synchronous (real-time) tools. For example, some instructors may use Chat to conduct office hours. You may still wear your pajamas, but you will need to be logged in on a set day/time in order to participate. Please refer to #3 to understand the differences between hybrid courses and online courses. ▪ What is the difference between a hybrid class and an online class? Online Classes: In an online class, all of the instruction is provided online and no face-to-face classroom instruction is required. Students may be required to attend an orientation or take proctored exams on campus or at an approved location near the student; please refer to the course schedule or contact the instructor for more information. Hybrid Classes: A hybrid course is an online course that requires students to visit the DACC campus at least once during the semester (for testing, lab work, et cetera). For details, please contact the instructor of the course, as the number and type of campus visits vary from one course to another. These courses have an "H" in the section code (as in BACC120 WH). ▪ How do I enroll/register for online courses? Please visit the Admissions & Registration page, or call 217-443-8800. ▪ How do I purchase my books and other required materials for my online course(s)? The best way to purchase books and other course materials is through the DACC Bookstore. For more information, call (217) 443-8759. ▪ What are the hardware and software requirements for my computer? Please refer to the Student Resources page. ▪ I don't have a computer at home. Can I still take an online course? You may take an online course as long as you have access to the Internet on a computer that meets the minimum requirements. Every registered DACC student has a Student NetworkID, which allows them to access student e-mail and course information from any computer that is connected to the Internet. Computers are available on-campus for use by online students in the Library (Clock Tower Center) and Lincoln Hall Room 204. Please refer to the Computer Lab Schedule for open lab days/times. ▪ How do I get help with technical problems? For Blackboard technical support, please contact the Online Learning and Services department: 217-443-8885 (Maggie Hoover). If you have problems with your username and/or password, contact the Computer and Network Services department at cns@dacc.edu or 217.443.8871 (Jeff Williams) or 217.443.8861 (Naomi Yonke). ▪ How do I get information about withdrawal or course add/drop procedures and other registration information? Refer to the Withdrawal Policy or contact Admissions at 217-443-8800. ▪ How do I get help with assignments, course content, or other course-related questions? Contact your course instructor. Your instructor's e-mail address is in your online classroom. ▪ How do I access my student e-mail? Go to the DACC homepage. Click on "Current Students" and then click on the link Check Your DACC E-mail to sign in using your Student Network ID and password.
