Spring 2012 Registration Dates at DACC
Registration for Winter Term 2011 and Spring 2012 will begin soon at Danville Area Community College. New students, and current students who prefer to register with an academic advisor, may begin registering on Monday, November 7, 2011; the Counseling and Advising office will begin making appointments for these students on October 17. Current students who have filed an education plan with the Counseling and Advising office may begin registering online October 31, 2011. Online registration is not available to new students. The registration deadline for students who will be new to DACC in the spring semester is Friday, January 6, 2012. Students who wish to register themselves online, but have not filed an educational plan are encouraged to meet with a counselor or academic advisor as soon as possible.

Winter Term is December 19, 2011 through January 6, 2012. All Winter Term courses are offered only online. Most spring classes begin January 17, 2012.

Due to the record enrollment of the past several semesters, current and new students are encouraged to enroll early for the best choice of class schedules. Hours for Counseling and Academic Advising are 8AM-5PM Monday through Friday. All College offices will be closed November 11, 2011 in observance of Veterans Day; November 24 and 25, 2011 for the Thanksgiving Holiday; and December 26, 2011, through January 2, 2012, for Winter break. Extended hours of 8AM-5:30PM will be offered Monday through Thursday, January 9-12 and Tuesday, January 17, 2012.

In the spirit of ďgoing green,Ē DACC implemented a paperless student communication system beginning with fall 2010 grades, and then added billing statements in spring 2011. The College no longer mails student grade reports or semester billing statements; students must access their personal information online through the Jaguar Spot via the DACC website. Current and prospective students who do not have Internet access may use computers available on campus.

To schedule a counseling appointment for the purpose of making an education plan or registering for spring 2012, or for questions about information accessed via the Jaguar Spot, please contact the Counseling and Advising office at 217-443-8750.

Fall 2011 Play
Danville Area Community Collegeís Liberal Arts Division and the DACC Players will present Sense and Sensibility on November 18 and 19 at 7:00 PM in the Bremer Theater. Admission is free. This play is an adaptation of Jane Austenís first novel. It is a story about the lack of family fortune which means difficult marriage prospects for the Dashwood sisters. These two sisters could not be more different. Both are seeking a husband but find neither Elinorís common sense nor Marianneís passion offer a key to happiness.  Startling secrets and unexpected twists line the path to true love in the tale of flirtation and folly.

The following DACC students are part of the production: Jacob Ault, Quentin Bloodworth, Aubrey Falconio, Ryan Harden, Lauren Hous, Dustin Jones, Amanda Long, Katheryne Mallender, Clive McLaughlin, Richard Morgan, Anree Pierce, Jonathan Claver, Breely Arford, Grace Oliver, Katie Walter and Ryan Perez who is the student director. Phil Langley and Glenda Boling are the play directors.

The DACC Foundation has received information on a free, online search engine for scholarships. The website is scholarshipexperts.com. I know many of us come into contact with students who are searching for ways to help pay for college.    The website appears to be easy to use and there is no cost to use their scholarship search engine. There are many other search engines available as well. The one I am most familiar with is
