ThyssenKrupp Presta Danville, LLC Donates $20,000 to Support DACC Students

Scholarships to Promote Manufacturing Education

Danville, Illinois – Following a June 29, 2011 announcement to invest $38.8 million in plant operations and create up to 100 new hourly and salaried positions in Danville, executives of ThyssenKrupp Presta Danville today announced they will donate $20,000 to the DACC Foundation in support of scholarships for students at Danville Area Community College.

“We believe it is important to promote education in manufacturing and make young people aware of good employment opportunities in the community,” said Carlos Dias, President at ThyssenKrupp Presta Danville. “We have been a corporate citizen in the Danville community for 18 years, and this initiative is another way to show our commitment.” ThyssenKrupp Presta Danville, LLC, is a part of the Components Technology business area of the ThyssenKrupp Group, based in Essen, Germany. The company is a leading manufacturer of assembled and ground camshafts for the automotive and heavy- and light-truck markets. ThyssenKrupp Presta, LLC has been headquartered in Danville, Illinois since 1993.

The donation -- $20,000 over a five-year period – will fund a total of four scholarships annually. Interested students must be enrolled in either Manufacturing or technical fields such as Auto Mechanics, Electronics, Maintenance or Engineering. Recipients may be either full-  or part-time students and must be available for an internship with ThyssenKrupp. The scholarships will be available for the 2011-2012 academic year. For more information, or to apply for one of the scholarships, please contact the DACC Foundation at Foundation@dacc.edu, or by calling 217-443-8843.

Manufacturing education opportunities at DACC begin with the College Express dual credit  program for high school juniors and seniors and include more than ten Associate degrees and certificates, as well as customized training for incumbent employees through the Corporate Education division.

“We are grateful to ThyssenKrupp Presta Danville for these much-needed scholarships in what is often an over-looked but thriving field of study in this area,” stated Tracy Wahlfeldt, Executive Director of the DACC Foundation. “The inclusion of an internship component is priceless in that it gives the students practical experience in a manufacturing environment. ThyssenKrupp has shown itself to be a valuable community partner in workforce development.”
