DACC Library Information

The Danville Area Community College Library is committed to supporting the learning activities of students, faculty / staff, and community residents with its information resources and services. The Library maintains collections of books, videos, sound recordings, and pamphlets, subscribes to newspapers and other periodicals. DACC's Library is part of Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois (CARLI), which joins together the resources of 76 member libraries, enabling our users to directly request materials from most of the academic libraries in the state of Illinois. In addition, the library licenses numerous electronic resources, and provides links to reputable internet sources.

Some things we'd like you to know about the Library include:
Library Cards

Current college ID's must be shown to check out any item. DACC students receive a student ID card each semester. ID's are also available from the Library Circulation Desk after the first two days of the semester. The Library will attach a barcoded sticker to the ID to activate it as a library card. First-time students should bring their DACC card to the Library for barcoding early in the semester. Once established, the library ID stays active for three years. The Library provides protective plastic sleeves to hold both the barcoded ID and each new semester ID as it is issued. Remember: Both must be present in order to check out materials. If an ID is lost, a replacement barcode can be attached to a replacement ID card (available through the library—allow 24 hours). Students should keep the library informed of their current address and phone number, report a lost library card, and observe the regulations that govern the use of library materials and services. Residents of the Community College District may request a Courtesy Card at the Circulation Desk. The card may be used only at DACC and is valid for three years.

Reference Service

Your questions are always welcome at the Reference Desk. You may call (443-8739) or email (library@dacc.edu) to ask questions. You may also take advantage of the Library's IM reference service on the Library Home Page. Librarians may ask you to come in if your request requires extensive time and your participation. Librarians provide assistance to "walk in" requests on a daily basis.

Interlibrary Loan

The I-Share online catalog allows direct borrowing from other I-Share libraries. Most I-Share requests arrive within 2-3 week days. Other books and articles identified from World Cat, LINC, and the article databases can often be provided through interlibrary loan from another library. Please allow time for receipt of interlibrary loan items. When books or photocopies are received, they are held at the Circulation Desk, 443-8883. A current Library ID is required for pick up. Interlibrary Loan is a free service. If copies of documents are not available at no charge, a fee-for-copy service may be available.

Library Instruction

The Library provides instruction in the use of library resources as well as in internet searching skills to groups and individuals. Many courses require a library session. Do not assume that the instruction for one course will repeat that of another class. Instruction is tailored to specific course requirements. Instructors or individuals wishing to arrange for sessions should contact Ruth Lindemann, Reference and Instructional Services Librarian, at 443-8735.

Reserves

Faculty often place material in a special collection called Reserves, located at the Circulation Desk, for use by their classes. Reserve items may be available for check out for shorter periods of time than usual, or may need to be used within the library. Users can search the online catalog from within the library to identify most, but not all, reserve items.

Computer Labs

The library has computer labs on the first and ground floors. The computers in the labs have internet access and Microsoft Office 2007 software. Students may not install any applications on these computers or download programs from the internet. The lab computers are reserved for research and coursework purposes. As space permits, students may use the computers for general internet searching and email in accordance with the library's Computer Lab Rules and the DACCNet Acceptable Use Policy. At times, the lab will be closed for Information and Library Resource Instruction.
