How Do I Find Information?

Assume It Can Be Found!

Just because you don't find something immediately doesn't mean it doesn't exist!

It just means you have to look in different places.

Cast Your Net Widely

Think of as many information sources as you can:

Search the Internet, But Don't Trust It and Don't Stop After Searching There
Read Essential Parts of Books
Locate Journal and Magzine Articles in Databases and in Print
Read Local (and National and International , if appropriate ) Newspapers Look at Video (or Audio) Sources Find Statistical Data
Conduct Your Own Experiments Draw on Local Archives, Museums, and Organizations Interview People for an Insider's Perspective

because NO single kind of source is sufficient.

Especially the Internet. ESPECIALLY THE INTERNET! ESPECIALLY THE INTERNET!

You can find information stored in collections, like those in libraries. You can find them stored in databases. You can find them on the Internet. And you can find them by digging them out of unusual sources, including yourself!

And REMEMBER, you can ask for Help! Ask your teacher! Ask Librarians! If you need to, just hit the PANIC button!

Don't Panic: Ask a Librarian!
