How

Library Information
How Do I Get a Library Card?
- Your library card consists of a library-issued barcode sticker on
the back of your student ID combined with your current semester student
ID. The barcode need only be issued once. You keep the copy of the
ID with the barcode attached to it in the plastic sleeve the Library
provides and slide each current semester ID in on top of it. Since
the library issues IDs after the first 2-day registration period, both
parts can be picked up in the library. You are responsible
for all items checked out on your library card until they have been
returned to the library, whether
or not you checked them out for someone else or they were checked out
in your name. Report
and replace a lost or stolen ID/library card immediately.
Does My Danville Public Library Card Work at DACC (or Vice
Versa)?
- No. DACC and Danville Public (or any of the other public libraries)
belong to separate library systems and our cards can not be used at
one another's
institutions. Eastern University students, however, can use their Panther
card here.
When is the Library Is Open?
- During Spring and Fall semesters, the library is open M-Th, 7:30
- 8; F, 7:30 - 5.. Intersession: M-F, 8 - 5. Summer: M-Th, 8 - 5.
Where is the Library?
- The library is located on the first floor of Clock Tower on the South
end of the building (nearest the V. A.).
Can I Use the Library If I Am Not a Student or Staff Member?
- Yes. You can get a Community User's card if you live in the College's
Service District. You will need to get a card in order to use the Computers
or check out materials.
How Does the Library Calculate Fines?
- Fines are charged on Reserve items, videos and special borrowables,
such as headsets. Charges for Reserves and videos accumulate at the
rate of $1/day or $1/hr depending upon the circulation period. Charges
for special borrowables vary. Failure to return items results
in a replacement charge plus a processing fee.
How Do I Pay My Library Fine? How Do I Get My Account Unfrozen?
- Charges of $5.00 or less may be paid in the library. Larger charges
must be paid in the cashier's office. Once the fine has been paid in
the cashier's office, the cashier will contact the library and it will
proceed with releasing your account.
How Do I Get Help with My Research?
- Librarians are always glad to assist students and staff members with
research questions, regardless of whether the research is related to
coursework at the College. You may come to the library and speak with
a librarian in person, call on the phone (443-8739), email
the library,
or use the IM chat box on the library's main page if the librarian
is "online". If your research question is lengthy in nature, it is
recommended that you come in to speak with a librarian in person in
order to get the best possible help.
How Do I Get My Student ID?
- After the first two days of fall and spring semester, students may
pick up their IDs in the library at the circulation desk. Students
who registered late, or who have some other problem with their account,
will have to fill out a form to have their ID made because it will
not have been run with the initial batch of IDs produced. Similarly,
any student who needs to make a correction to the information on the
ID will also need to request a new one. There is no charge for a replacement.
Replacement IDs will typically be available the next working day.
- Online students who need to pick up an ID in order to take a test
at the placement center should make arrangements to do so in advance
of the date of their exam.
Is There a Group Study Area?
- Groups are welcome to work together in any section of the Library
except the Quiet Study Area or at the computer work stations. We just
ask that they keep the noise at a reasonable level to avoid disturbing
others. No rooms are available for group work.
Is There a Quiet Study Area?
- Yes. On the lower level, on the North end, the last room is reserved
for individual studying and is strictly a quiet study area. If people
are noisy in this area, don't hesitate to ask a staff member to intervene.
