How Do I Access My Online Class?

  • Most students will be access their classes through Blackboard, the campus' preferred course management system.
  • Some instructors, however, use other courseware platforms, typically provided by textbook manufacturers. In order to access these, go to the Online Learning page and click on the link for the online courses for the current semester.

How Do I Get My User ID and Password?

  • To set up your DACC user ID and password go to the User ID page and follow the instructions. You will need to know either your student i.d. number or your social security number to complete the process.

  • Your password must be reset. This process cannot be done over the internet.
  • Call either 443-8871 or 443-8861 and inform Computer and Network Services that you need to have your password reset. You can leave a message with their voicemail. Please provide name, student number and a phone number where you can be reached or a message can reliably be left for you.

How Do I Use TurnItIn?

  • To use TurnItIn you need three things:
    1. an email account,
    2. the course ID number and password for TurnItIn that has been set up in advance by your instructor (this is a 6-7 digit number and then a password of some sort, often a variation of the instructor's or the course's name, not the course number of the class in the DACC course listing) and
    3. your paper in a file in its final form (including Works Cited if requested by your instructor). You can only submit each paper to TurnItIn once, so make sure you have it all together in a single file.
  • At TurnItIn you will create a personal account if you have never done so before.
  • You will Log In.
  • You will then "enroll" in the class for which you are submitting the paper.
  • Find the correct paper assignment and select "Submit".
  • Type in a title for your paper in the box.
  • Browse for your paper and select the appropriate file to upload. You can also copy and paste your paper if you prefer. If for some reason you have difficulty uploading this method should still work.
  • Check and make sure your entire paper is there.
  • Submit. Print a copy so you have proof you submitted it on this date at this time. Log out and you're done!

How Do I Use My DACC E-Mail?

  • Set up your DACC user ID and password.
  • Go to DACC email and login. The first time you will be asked to enter a term you see in a box to verify that you are a human user.

  • To send messages you use the "Compose" function. You can include other documents by means of the "Attach a file" feature.

Do the Library Computers Have __________ on Them?

  • The only programs on the library computers are programs that included in Microsoft Office 2007 Professional (Access, Excel, FrontPage, Groove, InfoPath, OneNote, Outlook, Powerpoint, Publisher, Word, and Tools) as well as the IE and Mozilla Firefox web browsers. All the public computers have internet access and can send print jobs to the printer located at the circulation desk.

Why Can't I Print?

Check the following:

  • Printing from the databases or Word? If you are in the library, did you switch the Printer to Library Laser Jet? If not you have not actually sent a print job.
  • If you did switch the printer correctly, the problem may be at the desk. If nothing is printing ask whoever is working at the desk to check and make sure the printer isn't out of paper or otherwise malfunctioning. It could also be that there is a long queue ahead of you if someone is printing a large document
  • Printing from the internet?
    1. Select the Library Laser Jet printer (in the library).
    2. Verify that there is not a problem up at the printer.
    3. Some web pages are designed not to print or will not print the way you expect. Look and see if the page has a Print-Friendly version. Use Print Preview to see what your printout will look like.Try using Print Selection or Print Frame to isolate the section you want to print. You can also try using PrintWhatYouLike.com, a tool that helps you print only the sections of pages that interest you. If you are citing a web page for a project, however, make sure you get the information you need for citation!
  • Are you printing a PDF file? If so, you need to make sure you use the printer icon on the Adobe PDF frame in your browser. If you don't, you can have any number of printing problems, such as text produced in different characters, printing failures, partial page printing and partial document printing.

How Do I Save Save Files at Home to Be Able to Use Them at DACC?

  • Many home computers come with Microsoft Works, not Word, installed. Many people may not even realize they don't have Word.
  • Works is like a stripped down version of Word. When you open a Works file in Word (2007 will open it, previous versions would not without a special driver being installed), you will find that all of the formatting has been changed or stripped out.
  • Also Works will not be able to open a file once it has been processed in Word unless it has been saved in a translatable format.
  • If you must switch between programs, save your files in .rtf This format translates between all types of word processing software while maintaining formats.
  • If you're on a budget, another option for your home computer is the OpenOffice suite of programs, which interacts with all commonly used programs such as Word. OpenOffice is a completely free suite of programs that has been developed and refined for more than 20 years by the open source movement.

How Do I Use My Floppy Disk?

  • You can't. Not in the library. None of our computers have floppy disk drives. You will need to save your materials to a flash drive, your campus server space, or email it to yourself from home.
