Federal Pell Grant

The Pell Grant is available to eligible students at Danville Area Community College.  The Pell  award can be used to pay tuition, fees, books and supplies, up to the amount available each semester. If the student has funds after costs are met, then refunds are issued at the mid-point of each term. To apply you must:

Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The best method is to apply on-line, it is safe and the quickest way to get the results to your school. Visit fafsa.ed.gov for complete instructions and to begin the process.  DACC's school code is 001669. If you need the paper FAFSA call or visit our office or call 1-800-433-3243.TTY users may use 1-800-730-9013.

To complete the FAFSA you will need information concerning your family's taxed and untaxed income as well as asset information. If you (and your spouse or parent) filed a Federal Tax Return you will need copies of these documents. You may contact our office if you have questions concerning what must be included as income and assets.

The previous year's financial resources (that is a completed Federal tax year) prior to the start of a financial aid award year  is the data you will use to complete the FAFSA.  The resulting expected family contribution (efc) will be used to determine your eligibility for all financial aid programs, including the Pell grant.

If you think your family has an exceptional financial circumstance that should be addresses complete the directions and the  worksheet for the Appeal for Special Circumstances (ASC) and return it (with supporting documentation) to the DACC  financial Aid Office. Introduction for the Internal Revenue Service Student WEB site:

Per the IRS: "This guide explains the federal income tax laws of particular interest to high school and college students. It will help you decide if the income you receive (such as wages, tips, interest, or a scholarship or fellowship) is taxable. It will also help you decide if you should have tax taken out  (withheld) from your pay and if you should file an income tax return.  The rules explained in this guide apply to students who are U.S. citizens and unmarried (single). If  you are a foreign student studying in the United States, you should see Publication 519, U.S. Tax Guide for Aliens. Comments and suggestions. Summer 2010 Policies and Procedure for Crossover Payment Periods
and Year-Round Pell

Beginning with the 2009-10 Award Year the Department of Education authorized Year-Round Pell awarding which allowed eligible students to receive more than 100% of their scheduled Award Year Pell amount if they met certain additional conditions.

DACC awarded Year-Round Pell beginning with the Summer 2009 semester. Eligible students who had a valid verified 2009/10 ISIR on file and met all other program conditions were awarded and disbursed Pell.

The Final regulations for the Year-Round Pell program have been issued and will be in effect by July 1, 2010. One of the stipulations is that all schools must have a written policy as to how they are going to award Pell for the Crossover period for Summer 2010.

The DACC financial Aid office has decided to award Pell grants for summer 2010 on a student-by-student basis.

The history at DACC has shown that a majority of current students do not have their “new” award year ISIR submitted or have not completed verification by the date summer bills are due. Because of this, for the students who have reached the 100% mark of their maximum Pell award and are enrolled in at least half-time status and in a program of study that is longer than one academic year Pell will be awarded from their 2009/10 (valid and verified) ISIR that is on file.

If a student (current or new for summer 2010) does not have a 2009/10 ISIR on file that has been verified and valid but has a 2010/11 ISIR on file that has been verified and valid and indicates Pell eligibility this ISIR will be used to award for Summer 2010. The student will not be required to be enrolled at least half-time.

The Acceleration rule does not apply for this cross-over Summer 2010 policy and therefore will not be monitored.

The 2010/11 Year-Round Pell regulations will apply to any students awarded from the 2010/11 ISIR award year.  DACC will have in place policies and procedures to monitor Valid and Verified  ISIRs on file for maximum Pell award consideration, acceleration of program measured by successfully completed earned credit hours and enrolled in programs greater than one academic year for any student award above 100% of their scheduled Pell award.
