  Computer Communications & Networks
        Associate in Applied Science Degree

This program will provide training and education for individuals interested in developing their knowledge and skills as a local area network administrator. The courses emphasize practical skills required to perform duties in the work environment under the supervision of an experienced local area network administrator. Students will participate in occupational work-site experiences. This program prepares the student for the Certified Novell Administrator (CNA) exam.

Nature of Work
Graduates in Computer Communications & Networks install and often customize network software so that the network meets the specified needs of a company. They may add or delete files to the network server, a centralized computer. They may update database, electronic mail, word processing and other applications when necessary. They are also responsible for setting up user access, since businesses store confidential information. Other duties may include training and providing technical support to network users.

Computer network administrator, network support specialist, data processing managers.

Employers
Insurance companies, banks, school systems, law firms, colleges and universities, government agencies, and publiching companies.

Outlook
Currently, there is a shortage so outlook is favorable. Growth in employment of local area network administrators is expected to be faster than average through the year 2006. As companies discover the economic and convenience advantages linked to using computer networks at all levels of operation, the demand for well-trained network specialists will increase.

Earnings
Nationally, entry level annual salaries for computer network administrators average about $22,000-$29,000/yr.
