        Associate in Applied Science Degree

This program is designed to give an individual a variety of career options such as Customer Service, Sales, Telemarketing, Marketing, Retail Sales, Hospitality, Advertising, Travel & Tourism, and Management.

Nature of Work
Marketing degrees prepare people to plan and carry out the promotion and sale of goods and services. Marketing refers to areas such as identifying customer needs, developing goods and services to satisfy those needs, communicating information about products to potential customers, and distributing the products to customers.

Jobs
Public relations, sales representatives, advertising, customer service, telemarketing, retail sales, travel and tourism, and management.

Employers
Marketing personnel are found in virtually every industry, but are employed heavily in automobile dealerships, printing and publishing businesses, advertising, department stores, computer and data processing services, and management and public relations.

Outlook
Employment of marketing personnel is expected to increase faster than the average for all occupations through the year 2006. Employment growth varies by industry, but college graduates with experience, a high level of creativity, and strong communication skills should have the best job opportunities.

Earnings
Nationally starting salaries for marketing personnel average about $19,000-$23,000/yr. In Illinois, starting salaries average from $15,000-$21,000. Salaries vary greatly depending on location and type of business.
