This program will provide graduates with the knowledge and skills necessary to function at the entry level in the field of addictions counseling, including alcoholism counseling. The program has been constructed with the Illinois Addictions Counseling Certification Board and the Illinois Certification boards. Graduates will have completed eligibility requirements necessary to apply for certification by either board.
Nature of Work
Counsels and aids individuals and families requiring assistance dealing with substance abuse problems, such as drug and alcohol abuse, interviews clients, reviews records, confers with other professionals, develops program mapping out goals and strategies to achieve and maintain sobriety, refers clients to other social service professionals and agencies.
