Principles, techniques, and tools in accounting. Collecting, summarizing, analyzing, and reporting business information. [C]

BOFF 121 Introductory Computer Typing (Fall and Spring) -- 4 hours
Keyboarding mastery, techniques, speed and accuracy development, introduction of letters, tables, and reports. Minimum speed requirement: 30 words per minute (maximum 6 errors) on 3-minute test. Class meets 5 hours per week. Outside lab work is required. [T, C]

BOFF 122 Intermediate Computer Typing (Fall and Spring) -- 3 hours

Speed and accuracy development. Business letters, reports, tables, and business forms. Developing proofreading skills. Minimum speed requirement: 40 words per minute (10 error maximum) on 5-minute test. Prerequisite: BOFF 121 with a grade of "C" or better and a minimum of 38 words a minute with 6 errors or less on a 3-minute timing or pass placement test or consent of instructor. Outside lab work required. Class is taught on microcomputers using WordPerfect. [T, C]

BOFF 125 Business Correspondence (Fall & Spring) -- 3 hours
Theory and practical application of business letter and memo writing including inquiries, acknowledgments, orders, adjustment, and requests. E-mail, reports, and meeting correspondence included. Dictating techniques. Work on the COMPUTER REQUIRED. Prerequisite: BOFF 114 or 121; enrollment in or completion of BOFF 228. [T, C]

BOFF 130 Windows (Fall, Spring & Summer) -- 2 hours
This course introduces Microsoft Windows and teaches basic terminology, mouse techniques, and keyboard shortcuts. Learn Windows skills such as Explorer, Clipboard, Paint, and Word Pad. Recommended Prerequisite: BOFF 114 or BOFF 121 or consent of instructor. Course length 8 weeks. [C]

Intro. to the Office (Fall & Spring) -- 3 hours
Emphasizes the fundamentals of word processing, its history, current office practices, organization and structure, work flow, equipment, role of the secretary and management, and career opportunities, and basic 10-key instruction. Prerequisite: Enrollment in or completion of BOFF 121 or consent of instructor. [C]

BOFF 151 Records Management (Fall, Spring and Summer) -- 3 hours
Practical application and overview of alphabetic, subject, geographic, and numerical filing systems with emphasis on basic principles and procedures of record storage, control, selection, and retrieval. Personal and home record system. [C]

BOFF 217 Desktop Publishing I (Fall and Spring) -- 3 hours
The fundamentals of layout and design techniques as well as the basic operation of a high-end desktop publishing software program. Prerequisite: BOFF 121 or BOFF 114; BOFF 130. [C]

BOFF 218 Desktop Publishing II (Spring) -- 3 hours
A continuation of BOFF 217. Includes instruction in advanced layout and design techniques and advanced features of a high-end desktop publishing software program. Prerequisite: BOFF 217 or consent of instructor. [C]

BOFF 225 Basic Excel (Fall & Spring) -- 2 hours
An introductory course to develop skills in creating, revising, and printing spreadsheets, charts, and graphs. Prerequisite: BOFF 130 or consent. Recommended: MATT 104 or BACC 113. Course length 8 weeks. [C]

BOFF 226 Basic Access (Fall & Spring) -- 2 hours
An introductory course to develop skills in creating, adding, revising, deleting, and sorting records. Printed reports and mailing labels will be covered. Prerequisite: BOFF 130 or consent. Course length 8 weeks. [C]

BOFF 227 PowerPoint (Fall & Spring) -- 2 hours

An introductory course to develop skills in preparing and using this graphics and presentation software to include text, titles, bulleted lists, and charts. Prerequisite: BOFF 130 or consent. Course length 8 weeks. [C]

BOFF 228 Basic Microsoft Word (Fall & Spring) -- 2 hours
The introduction of Microsoft Word on an IBM microcomputer. The instruction includes entering, editing, enhancing, and revising text material. Prerequisite: BOFF 130 or consent. Course length 8 weeks. [C]

Microsoft Office (Fall & Spring)-- 2 hours

An introductory course in the integration of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, and Powerpoint). Prerequisite: BOFF 225, BOFF 226, BOFF 227, BOFF 228, or consent. Course length 8 weeks. [C]

BOFF 237 Intermediate Microsoft Word (As Needed) -- 2 hours
An intermediate course to further develop skills in working with multiple windows, using find and replace, creating tables, and other features. Some outside lab work is required. Prerequisite: BOFF 228, or consent of instructor. Course length 8 weeks. [C]

BOFF 260 Job Search Seminar (Fall, Spring) -- 2 hours
This course will introduce students to concepts and strategies for the development of life-long skills in the areas of job search, job survival, and careering in a new economy. Prerequisite: BOFF 114 or BOFF 121, BOFF 125, and BOFF 228. Completion of 30 semester hours. [C]

A study of business operations in relation to society and the consumer. Units of study include the private enterprise system, business environment, social changes, economic philosophies, business ethics, and human relations. To acquaint the student with the business world in all aspects and support his own conclusions in the subject areas of economics and business. [T]

CBUS 150 Business Computer Systems (Fall, Spring & Summer) -- 3 hours
This course covers the role of computing in our society today. Emphasis is placed on how computers are used in business and industry. Basic systems analysis and design techniques, and file processing and database concepts are covered. Students are introduced to and trained in business software packages, including word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation, and Internet access applications. All of the above are accessed in the current Windows environment. Other operating systems are discussed as well. A special fee is assessed. Class meets 4 hours per week. [T]

ENGL 130 Com. Skills (Office Personnel) (Fall and Spring) -- 3 hours
For Office Systems and Technology students. Improvement of writing skills, emphasizing both composition and review of grammar. Placement is preliminary until a writing sample has been examined by the instructor during the first week of class. Vocational credit cannot be used to fulfill the Communications requirement for the transfer Associate degree. This is a computer-aided course. Prerequisite: BOFF 114. [C]

INFO 105 Introduction to Computer Workstations (Fall, Spring & Summer) -- 2 hours
Excellent course for the novice computer user offering hands-on education with a mouse, keyboard, and printer as well as the operating environments. Experience gained in this course will prepare the student to become a productive user of graphical user interface systems. [C]

INFO 110 Internet & Telecommunications (Fall, Spring & Summer) -- 3 hours
This is an introductory course to Internet usage and telecommunication fundamentals. World wide web browser features, Internet searches, e-mail, FAX, satellite transmissions, teleconferencing and other data transmission technologies are covered. Labs and student projects provide practical experience. [C]

INFO 114 Lotus 1-2-3 for Windows (Fall, Spring, & Summer) -- 3 hours
An introductory course on microcomputer application software using LOTUS 1-2-3 for Windows. A hands-on approach is incorporated in the lecture portion of this course to give students maximum exposure to hardware and software frequently seen in industrial and business environments. Topics to be covered include: designing spreadsheets, entering formulas, functions, and table references, creating graphs and using template files, using database sort and query commands, enhancing printed reports and developing macros. Recommended for all business majors. Computer workstation knowledge recommended. Prerequisite: INFO 105, current enrollment, or consent of instructor. [T,C]


INFO 120 Terminal Operations (Fall, Spring & Summer) -- 1 hour
Terminal usage concepts for Information Systems students are taught using an on-line mainframe editor (XEDIT) to create interactive files. File maintenance concepts will also be taught, including adds, deletes, and
changes. Files will also be printed, sorted and the student will learn to make inquiries into the system. Knowledge of keyboard recommended. [C]

INFO 135 Concepts in Programming: C (Fall & Spring) -- 3 hours
Introductory course in computer programming for all business related majors, providing a basic knowledge of the fundamentals of programming. Various number systems are studied to see how they are used in a computer. Program files will be compiled and executed. Problem solving is discussed and flowcharts are used to introduce logic concepts. Emphasis is on common applications using the C language and a user approach. Prerequisite: INFO 105 or current enrollment. [C]

INFO 150 Networking Essentials (Fall & Spring) -- 3 hours

Computer network literacy is the topic of this course. The purpose is to provide students with a knowledge base of networking concepts and terminology in preparation for more advanced study of networks. Course
content is delivered via web based instructional software. Prerequisite: INFO 110 or consent of instructor. [C]

INFO 160 Data Entry Operations (Spring) -- 3 hours
Data entry fundamentals will be covered using state-of-the-art data entry procedures and equipment. Students receive hands-on exposure to real world applications of data entry taught on IBM mainframe workstations commonly found in industry. IBM PCS are also used for certain projects. Students will complete many industrial projects to build accuracy and speed. Prerequisite: INFO 105. [C]

INFO 170
Console Operations (Fall & Spring) -- 3 hours
Virtual machine concepts are stressed, as well as the various operating systems found in a virtual machine environment. Operating System/400 is also discussed and contrasted as well as the hardware found in both
mainframe and mid-range systems. The control statements necessary to operate a computer are covered and used in various examples applicable to the students experiences. Calculating with binary and hexadecimal numbers is also stressed. Prerequisite: INFO 135. [C]

INFO 173 Database Applications (Fall) -- 3 hours
This course offers the student an introduction to database management software using Microsoft Access. Techniques will be covered for designing, creating, and accessing database files on PC systems. A hands-on approach is incorporated in the lecture portion of this course to give students maximum exposure to on-line database access methods. Topics to be covered include using command menus for data access, file and index creation, adding, changing and deleting records, generating printed reports, and printing form letters and mailing labels. Computer workstation knowledge recommended. [C]

INFO 175 Mainframe Operating Systems (Fall & Spring) -- 3 hours

Virtual Machine/Enterprise System Architecture (VM/ESA) is discussed from a hands-on users viewpoint. CP and CMS are discussed in detail with lab assignments emphasizing the concepts. Topics covered include CP and CMS commands, file handling, spooling, message handling, virtual storage, paging, and virtual devices. Prerequisite: INFO 135 [C].

INFO 180 DOS Concepts (Fall, Spring & Summer)-- 2 hours
This course includes the most frequently used DOS commands. DOS fundamentals and file manipulation using floppy and hard disk management are covered as well. Prerequisite: Any microcomputer course or consent of
instructor. [C]

INFO 214 Fourth Generation Languages (Fall) -- 3 hours
This is an advanced course using the dBASE IV programming language to analyze the impact of 4th generation languages on computer information systems. English-like commands and programming tools are used to increase the problem solving potential of the student. The concepts of relational database management systems are covered as students write the applications programs for a menu driven/user friendly system. Prerequisite: INFO 174.

Business mathematical exercises and problems. Aliquot parts, percentages, decimal arithmetic, fractions, commissions, compound interest, bank discounts, installment buying, taxes, and depreciation. [C]
