Diagnostic Medical Sonography

Mission Statement
     The DMS program at DACC prepares the student for employment upon graduation as a key member of the health care team that performs a variety of sonographic procedures by operating complex equipment and providing skilled patient care.

Overview
     This rigorous program offers a wide variety of educational experiences in professional/technical coursework. In addition to classroom, students will complete 1100 hours of clinical education coordinated by the faculty at DACC and directly supervised by credentialed technologists at affiliated medical facilities. This critical component of the curriculum allows students to perform real hands-on application of knowledge. Its graduates are eligible to take the national certification examinations given by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).

Program Goals:

  • To provide both educational and employment opportunities to the individuals of this community, so that they may::
    • Communicate effectively.
    • Engage in critical thinking.
    • Perform competently in clinical practice.
    • Demonstrate professional growth.
  • To provide the community’s health care facilities, including hospitals, professional clinics and private physician’s offices with qualified radiographers.
