Teaching
Philosophy and Practice:
Students are
capable of learning beyond what they believe are their limitations and
discover that learning is fun, a challenge and a life long process.
Students must be actively involved in their learning, which helps them
to be creative and step out of the box, away from memorization to
application. The lab must be treated as an actual health information
management department; students are expected to develop a professional
attitude and to become self-motivated through hands on activities,
role playing and simulations. It is important to help students
realize that the Health Information Technologist is a very special
member of the health care team and contributes to the health care of
the patient by ensuring that information is accurate and timely, and
that the needed data is provided to the health care team members.
