Coding Certificate Program at DACC

The Medical Coding Certificate Program prepares students to become medical coding specialists.  The program is a three-semester certificate program designed to prepare individuals to understand coding principles, guidelines, medical terminology and regulations changes for coding.  The program is designed to offer a wide variety of learning experiences including classroom lectures, labs using computerized coding software and clinical experience in other health care settings.

Coders who have gained several years of experience in hospitals or ambulatory settings may elect to take the Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Coding Specialist - Physician (CCS-P) exams offered by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).

NOTE:  Students who would like to obtain their Associate Degree in Health Information Technology later should take BIO 136 and BIO 137.
