Once you have set up an account, you will be able to simply log into Noodletools whenever you want to create a Works Cited page or work on an existing one.
To begin a new Works Cited page, click on Bibliography on the toolbar
![]()
Then select the citation format: MLA Advanced, MLA Starter or APA Advanced. (Your instructor will tell you if s/he prefers one over the other. MLA Starter is not recommended. Chicago/Turabian is not typically used by instructors on this campus.)
Begin entering citations. Noodletools will ask you to make selections from lists, answer questions, or fill in information. You can always add, edit, or delete citations later.
The first choice you must make is to determine what type of resource you are citing. After making a selection, answer the questions and complete the information as requested.
Note: In APA, for anything retrieved using the library's databases, select "Aggregated Database" when asked to choose the type of online source.
Print or Online: This is an important distinction. Sources that you access in an electronic version must be cited accordingly. That's because it is simply not the same experience to read about an event in a slick print version with glossy, full-color photos as it is to read the plain text version. If you consider an event like the World Trade Center attack this becomes clear. Imagine if your only knowledge of the attack was from printed words as opposed to the vivid images you probably conjure up at the mention of the words "Twin Towers". This distinction is also true for viewing a film in a theater versus seeing it on a DVD in your living room, reading the transcript of an interview as opposed to listening to it on the radio, or looking at a historical document reproduced on the web. All materials must be cited as experienced unless otherwise directed by your instrctor.
After completing each citation, click the "Check for Errors" button at the bottom of the page before you select "Update Citation". Noodletools will check for formatting problems.
Completed citations can be edited, deleted or copied from one list to another.
Lists can be saved, emailed, sorted and printed.
If you want to copy your list into your paper, click on Save as Word Doc. Then select Export and Print, which will let you save the file as an .rtf document that can be opened by any word processor. Save the file, and then open it in your word processor. Copy and paste the text into your paper where you want the Works Cited to appear.

You will use Noodletools to put together your Works Cited pages. This tool takes much of the "grunt work" out of citation, so you don't have to worry about how many spaces to put after periods or deal with the frustration of alphabetizing your list. You will, however, still need to understand the types of source materials you are using, where you are getting them from, and pay attention to some details regarding capitalization and abbreviation. In other words, Noodletools won't do your work for you.
Before you can begin using Noodletools, you must set up an account. If you are off-campus, you will need to know the college's i.d. and password. If your instructor has not provided you with this information, contact the library at: 443-8739 or by email: library@email.com . Please indicate the course for which you are using Noodletools, and the librarian will give you the information.
