ACCOUNTING PROGRAM
Welcome to the Accounting Department of the Business Division at Danville Area Community College located in Danville, Illinois. The Accounting Program offers a Business Administration transfer Associate of Science Degree in addition to an Associate of Applied Science Degree and Certification in Accounting for non transfer students.
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The Accounting program provides the academic and
practical background for a successful career in this dynamic field. You will
build a foundation of skills, knowledge, teamwork and professional organization
that will prepare you with the basics geared toward advanced study in business
or toward a career in accounting. Currently employed workers find specialized
studies and an opportunity to upgrade their employment skills. The program you
select will provide educational background valuable in business or as well as
any career field.
DEGREES AND CERTIFICATION
As a student in the Accounting program you may
receive an Associate in Applied Science Degree for the career student or a
Business Administration Associate of Science Degree for transfer students.
You may also obtain a Certificate in Accounting
and the opportunity to become a Certified Bookkeeper.
CAREER FIELDS
Career opportunities within Accounting are almost
limitless within the public and the private sector. With your degree in
Accounting, you may seek employment in general accounting, payroll accounting,
ledger accounting, financial accounting, asset accounting, or
tax accounting.
INTERNSHIP
As an Accounting major in pursuit of a degree,
you may apply for an internship during your second year at Danville Area
Community College. Interns will be assigned to a local business to gain
valuable experience in all areas within the Accounting Department.
CLASSROOM ACTIVITIES
The Accounting Section of the Business Department emphasizes decision making, and problem solving as well as utilizing a team concept approach in some instances. Computer labs will provide a practical background in addition to the problem solving utilized in the classroom.
