COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Introduction to electronic music on digital synthesis, microcomputer applications, and musical instrument digital interface standard (MIDI).  Includes principles of sound synthesis, operations, and programming of digital synthesizers, and use of specially designed computer software.
PREREQUISITES:
Place into ENGL121.

COURSE OBJECTIVES / STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES:
To introduce the student to applications of MIDI and basic digital sound synthesis techniques using Csound and MAX, two of the most important computer music environments in use currently.  the goal at the end of the course will be to present student composition projects and produce a compilation of them of compact disc.  Being able to read music is not a prerequisite for taking the course; but in the process of learning how to make music with computers, some understanding of music fundamentals will be gained.

Five assignments (each worth 5% of the final grade)
