COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course will provide the student a comprehensive exposure to the hydraulic system and components utilized on typical industrial machinery.  Emphasis will be placed on the understanding of hydraulic schematics, location and testing of hydraulic components, and the overall analysis of the hydraulic system.  Students will get extensive instruction on the removal and installation of hydraulic components following proper safety procedures.  Hands-on experience with the use of hydraulic testing equipment in concert with machine specifications and blueprints will be a large portion of this class.  Heavy emphasis will be placed on diagnostic and troubleshooting skills utilized throughout the disassembly and reassembly of the hydraulic system.

MATT133 and MFRG110

COURSE OBJECTIVES / GOALS:
  • The student will understand the function and servicing of hydraulic components such as pumps, control valves, cylinders, and hydraulic motors.
  • The student will learn how to determine lifting force and speed of hydraulic cylinders as relates to area, gallons of oil per minute, pressure per square inch of area.
  • The student will learn the various uses and types of systems involving hydraulics and fluid power on manufacturing production machinery.
  • The student will understand and interpret hydraulic schematics with a focus on parts identification and location.
  • The student will become aware of safety practices when working around hydraulic components, general fluid power testing, service procedures, and processes.
  • The student will continue to develop his/her skill in the accurate and efficient diagnosis and repair of production machinery hydraulic problems.

EVALUATION:
