COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course will provide the student a comprehensive exposure to the electrical system and components utilized on typical industrial machinery.  Emphasis will be placed on the understanding of electrical schematics, location and testing of electrical components, and the overall analysis of the electrical system.  Students will get extensive instruction on the removal and installation of electrical components following proper safety procedures.  Hands-on experience with the use of electrical testing equipment in concert with machine specifications and blueprints will be a large portion of this class.  Heavy emphasis will be placed on diagnostic and troubleshooting skills utilized throughout the disassembly and reassembly of the electrical system.

COURSE OBJECTIVES / GOALS:
  • The student will learn the various uses and types of systems involving electricity and electronics on manufacturing production machinery.
  • The student will understand and interpret electrical schematics with a focus on parts identification and location.
  • The student will become aware of safety practices when working around electricity, general electrical testing, service procedures, and processes.
  • The student will continue to develop his/her skill in the accurate and efficient diagnosis and repair of production machinery electrical problems.

EVALUATION:
A point system will be used to evaluate a student’s progress.  Points will be assigned to written classroom work, lab projects, and various written and hands-on examinations.
