COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course gives the student a basic understanding of probation and parole, their theoretical bases, and their impact on the criminal justice process and society.  The student will achieve an understanding of what effects these unique areas have on the rehabilitation of the offender.
PREREQUISITES:
Place into ENGL121.
NOTES:

COURSE OBJECTIVES / GOALS:
This course will familiarize the student with principles and concepts related to the field of probation and parole.  Students will be able to analyze policies and apply perspectives as they relate to this field.

A. Probation and courts; history and administration
B. Sentencing and presentence investigation
C. The juvenile court system/probation, institutions and aftercare

II.Parole
A. Prisons and community-based corrections
B. Parole and indeterminate sentencing
C. Parole administration and services

III. Rehabilitation and Supervision
A. Theory and practice
B. Probation and parole officers/supervision
C. Special problems in probation and parole
D. Intermediate punishments
