Alternative Delivery Systems & Instructional Media Services

The Instructional Media Services Department houses traditional AV equipment and provides services such as rental of films and videos, off-air recording, tape duplication, and streaming video over the internet. Studio and remote video production capabilities are available to staff and faculty as well as multimedia instruction and design. Lamination, audio tape duplication, transparency generation, and closed-circuit scheduling services are also available.

The Instructional Media Services Department maintains 3 Ku/C-band and digital satellite receivers. Program guides and recording services may be scheduled in advance by any staff or faculty. Satellite programming is also accessible through closed-circuit television throughout the campus.

The Danville Area Education Network (DAENET), which consists of linked Interactive videoconferencing facilities throughout the Community College District, is maintained in room 005 of the Clock Tower Center. The classroom is used for workshops and seminars, credit and non-credit courses, videoconferencing and in-service training and K-12 credit and enrichment programs. College-owned multi-site bridging facilities and access to network services are available. Audio and Videoconferencing services via the internet are also provided. Instructional Media enables the College more accessible through the use of video/telecourses, internet classes and interactive video courses.

Video/Telecourses are classes offered on videotape. Students watch the tapes at home at their convenience and work at their own pace with the support of an instructor. There are deadlines throughout the semester and some on campus meetings are required. The meetings are intended to assist students in their progress through the video series. Internet classes are at the students own convenience at their home computer or the campus computer lab to access class information through a series of web sites. They may interact with instructors through an electronic bulletin board, e-mail or in person during office hours.

Interactive Video Courses are through completely interactive audiovisual technology, students can attend class at a remote site while the instructor conducts class from campus.

Assessment Center

The Assessment Center is located in Cannon Hall. The staff administer a variety of assessments, including both the placement assessment for new students and the post-test for graduating students. The staff also administer assessments for Career Services, the Nursing Program, the Student Support Services Center, and alternative delivery courses. In cooperation with the College's Corporate and Community Education division, the Assessment Center serves as a testing site for local businesses. It also serves as an official testing site for members of the community who need a proctor for an exam. Bookstore

The Bookstore is located on the lower level of Lincoln Hall and sells student textbooks and manuals which are chosen by the instructors, as well as supplies and novelty items. Normal hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. during the fall and spring semesters. In August and January, during the week before classes begin, the Bookstore has extended hours on Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Friday 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Summer semester hours are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The Bookstore holds a Book Buyback during finals each semester. This gives students the opportunity to sell books that they no longer need. A small buyback is also held in January and August after classes start.

Career Services Center

The Career Services Center, located in Lincoln Hall, Room 104, assists students in making career and life planning choices. Students wishing assistance in their career choice or in identifying skills which will aid them in the job hunting process may visit the Career Center. A variety of career information is available, including several computerized career guidance programs. Personnel are available to assist students in the decision-making process through individual counseling and testing as well as career planning seminars.

Career Services also helps students with their full-time, part-time and seasonal employment needs. Career Services personnel serve as liaisons between DACC students, faculty/staff and potential employers. The computerized service is designed to help the DACC student acquire the skills necessary for successful job searching as well as connect the student with potential employer contacts. Job search information and employer information are available in the Career Center.

Child Development Center

The Child Development Center is a licensed day care facility with a professional staff and offers a high quality pre-school program for ages 2-5. It also serves as a laboratory observation center for DACC classes in related fields. The Center is open from 6:45 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and is closed on college holidays. Weekly, daily, and half-day tuition rates are available. Programs at the Center, which is staffed by a director, five teachers, numerous student workers, student interns, and a cook, are intended to promote the social and educational growth of the child, to aid in the development of a sound self-concept, and to further the child’s growth in language skills. The center is open 51 weeks per year, Monday-Friday. The center is open to ANY child in the community. Child registration information is available at 217.443.8833.

DACC Downtown Center

The Danville Area Community College Center is located at 37 North Vermilion in downtown Danville. The Center offers a comprehensive computer lab open to the public, hours are Monday - Thursday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Downtown Center offers a relaxing atmosphere with a friendly staff to help students expand thinking, provide support resources and assist in problem solving. The facility also offers meeting rooms for community/company meetings and activities.

In addition the Downtown Center offers an array of College accredited courses, Corporate and Community Education Classes, Beginning to Advanced Computer Workshops, as well as Adult Education Courses (ABE, GED, and English as a Second Language). Information Office

The Information Office, headquartered in the Records Office (Vermilion Hall), houses the lost and found, maintains the college switchboard, and answers general student inquiries. The Information Office may be reached by calling 443.DACC (3222).

Library Services

The Library supports the teaching and learning mission of DACC by providing information resources and services to students, faculty/staff, and residents of the community college district. The Library is located in the Clock Tower Center, with entrance on the main level. Renovated and expanded in 2000, the Library offers a rich and diverse collection of traditional print resources, as well as electronic resources linked from the Library web page (www.dacc.edu/library). Literally thousands of journal titles are included in the "full text" holdings of the Library's electronic database subscriptions. A variety of reference databases are also provided for campus and at-home use.

DACC Library-owned materials are circulated through Illinet Online, the catalog of over 60 primarily academic Illinois libraries. Items which the Library does not own may be requested via Illinet Online or other interlibrary loan services. For students and staff, DACC ID cards serve as library cards. A resident of the college district may request a courtesy library card. The Library is a member of the Lincoln Trail Libraries System, ILLINET, OCLC, the Illinois Digital Academic Library (IDAL), and NILRC (a consortium of Midwestern college libraries).

Instruction in the use of library and electronic information resources is a critical component of DACC Library services. Librarians work closely with faculty to design and integrate instruction appropriate to varied curricula. A strong emphasis is placed on providing students with individual guidance and personal assistance in locating and selecting information resources. Professional reference librarians are scheduled during all open library hours.

A Quiet Study area is housed in the Library’s Lower Level. A “Listening Room” and audio-visual equipment are provided for in-house use of music and visual media. Assistive equipment and software are offered for low vision students. The Library has a coin-operated copy machine and offers facsimile service for a fee.

The Library is open when the college is in session, but closes during semester breaks and for campus holidays. Summer hours are limited. Call the Reference Desk (217.443.8739) for information about Library resources, services, and hours.

Health Services

The Health Services Office is staffed by a part-time Nurse and is located in the Lincoln Hall. Students may utilize any or all of the following services: Blood pressure and weight check, urinalysis, hemoglobin, and blood glucose monitoring. First aid treatment is also provided and a place to rest if a student feels ill.

The Health Service Office also has health pamphlets on a wide range of subjects and can refer students to a variety of free health services available in the community.

All Communicable Diseases such as chickenpox, measles, mumps, etc, are to be reported to the school nurse. The following information is to be given: Name and Address, Date of Birth, Date of Onset, and Doctor. If mumps is reported, the date of vaccination is required.

In the event a student requires emergency medical or surgical treatment for injury or serious illness an ambulance will be called if requested or appears necessary. Any such treatment and service is at the student's expense.

Student Diversity Advocate

The Student Diversity Advocate plans, develops, and implements programs and activities designed to increase the representation and enhance the academic success of students from diverse backgrounds including but not limited to students from diverse race, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds as well as students with disabilities. The programs and activities sponsored by the Student Diversity Advocate, ultimately, foster and support an inclusive campus environment which reflects and welcomes students from all backgrounds. Additionally, the Student Diversity Advocate is available to "advocate" or assist students in the resolution of issues or concerns a student might encounter on campus.

Student Support Services Center

The Student Support Services Center (SSSC) provides services and resources to a wide variety of students in both transfer and technical programs. The SSSC is funded by a state Special Populations grant and two federal grants, Perkins III and TRIO. These services and resources, which are all free, fall into three major categories.

The SSSC provides comprehensive tutoring services for DACC students. Students who experience academic difficulty in one or more of their courses may request a tutor. Tutoring, which is provided by professional as well as peer tutors, is available for almost every course.

Students with disabilities may request academic accommodations through the SSSC. Resources and services include counseling, assistive technology, taped and/or large-print textbooks, adaptive equipment, interpreters, notetakers, and alternative testing arrangements.

The SSSC also sponsors a variety of activities to foster student success. Workshops and seminars are offered including Assertiveness Skills, Portfolio Development, Stress Management, Study Skills, Test Anxiety, Time Management, Transferring to a Four-Year Institution, and other topics as identified by students. The SSSC hosts an Appreciation Banquet in the spring to recognize students, employees, and faculty who have assisted the department throughout the year.

Parking Facilities

Students are requested to park in designated areas and observe all college parking regulations. No student parking is permitted along the drives. Only handicapped students may utilize parking spaces marked by special signs.

Motorcycles should be parked in the appropriate designated area.

Social and Recreational Facilities

The Student Union Restaurant with a private dining room area is located in Lincoln Hall.

Lost and Found Service

The College does not assume responsibility for personal property of the student. The Information Office located in Vermilion Hall and the Security Office located in Lincoln Hall maintain a lost and found service for misplaced property.
