DACC Catalog 2011-2012
Catalog - Alternative Delivery Learning Options
Internet Classes
Students may use their own computer or a computer in a campus lab to access class information over the internet. The student can access the course work at their own convenience. Students interact with the instructor through an electronic bulletin board, E-mail or in person during office hours. Student discussions may take place via chat rooms where group projects may be beneficial.
Video Telecourses
Telecourses are classes offered on videotape. Students watch the tapes at home at their convenience and work at their own pace with the support of an instructor. There are deadlines throughout the semester and some on-campus meetings are required. Students may tape at home via cable network, lease from DACC or checkout from local libraries.
Interactive Video Courses
Interactive Video is technology that brings people from two or more locations together. In a nutshell, Interactive Video is a room filled with monitors, cameras and microphones in which data is collected and transmitted via T-1 telephone lines; A T-1 line is the equivalent of 28 regular lines bundled together. The system is totally interactive, you will be able to see and speak to students at a remote site and they will be able to see and hear you. Incoming video and audio are slightly delayed due to the compression of video.
Online Classes and Accreditation
DACC offers more than 100 online courses in Transfer, Career, and Basic Skills programs. The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools has granted DACC accreditation to offer online degrees and certificates in Accounting; Marketing; Travel and Tourism; and the general transfer degree, Associate of Science and Arts (ASA).
