For the second time in five years, Danville Area Community College men’s basketball coach Mike Carpenter won the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association’s Junior College Coach of the year on Saturday.
Carpenter accepted the award at the Hall of Fame banquet at Illinois State University on Saturday night and requested that assistant coaches DaJuan Gouard and Rick Voyles were also recognized.
“We are very proud of our team and its accomplishments. However, none of our success would be possible with out the hard work and dedication that DaJuan Gouard and Rick Voyles have given to our program. They deserve a tremendous amount of credit and I’m very appreciative of their efforts.” said Carpenter.
Carpenter has won 110 games in his time at DACC and this year, the Jaguars won the Region 24 title, were co-champions of the Mid-West Athletic Conference and took 8th at the NJCAA Division II National Tournament.
He has also sent 40 players to four year schools with six going to NCAA Division I schools.
The honor adds to his MWAC and Region 24 Coach of the Year awards he has earned this season.
