Bronx, NY   DACC point Guard,Chris Whitehead, signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Fordham University. Fordham, a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference, is located in New York City, and is rated a Top 50 Academic Institution in the United States.

Whitehead was the first DACC Basketball player to be named NJCAA First Team All-American. He led the Jaguars to a school-record 28-4 record, and averaged 12.3 ppg, 3.2 rpg and a team-high 4.8 assists/game (155 in 32 games). He shot 49.8% (147-295) from the field on the year and had a 1.5 assist/turnover ratio.

DACC won the Mid-West Athletic Conference Championship, and became the first team in conference history to go undefeated in conference play. The Jaguars broke the school record for wins in a season, and had a school record 17-game win streak.

 A graduate of New Albany High School in New Albany, Ind., Whitehead was a 2011 Indiana All-Star and the 2011 News and Tribune Area Player of the Year. Whitehead averaged 17.3 points, 6.1 assists and 4.7 rebounds per game as a senior in 2009-2010 after missing the first six games of the season with a broken collarbone. He led the Bulldogs to the Class 4-A sectional championship, scoring 27 points in the title game. Whitehead finished his New Albany career with 922 points (ninth on the school’s list).

 Whitehead has been chosen to participate in the NJCAA National All-Star Game in Las Vegas on May 11.

The DACC Men's Basketball Team took home 8th place in the 2012 NJCAA Division II Men's Basketball Tournament

The Danville Area Community College Men's Basketball Team lost to 6th ranked Erie Community College 63-62 in the Consolation Championship at the 2012 NJCAA National Basketball Tournament. Danville earned an 8th place finished, while Erie placed 7th.

This was just the second DACC team in the program's history (1998) to win the Conference, Region, and place in the National Tournament in the same season.

The Jaguars would trade leads with Erie 6 times in the first half before DACC would take a 37-33 lead into halftime. Erie would go on a 17-7 run late in the second half to take a 55-51 lead. However, DACC would go to the free throw line with 52.2 seconds remaining, trailing 61-59, but would make just 1 of 2. Danville would get a steal on the next possession and a basket by Shea Sumpter would give Danville a 62-61 lead with 15.4 seconds remaining. But Erie would win the game on a 8 foot bank-shot with 1.8 seconds remaining to win the game.

Leading the way for Danville was Shea Sumpter with 16 points and 11 rebounds, Brandon Demmings with 13 points and Nyree Robinson with 10.

DACC shot just 38% from the field for the game and out rebounded Erie 42-35.

This was the last game for DACC Sophomores Brandon Demmings, Shea Sumpter, Tony Tolliver, and Isaiah Carter. The 4 sophomores lead the Jaguars to 40 wins, a 2011 Region Runner-up finish, the 2012 MWAC Championship, 2012 Region 24 Championship, and an 8th place finish at the 2012 National Tournament.
