 Transfer Admission Requirements for Elementary/Early Childhood Education

  1. 3.10 Grade Point Average (4.0 scale)
  2. Sixty (60) semester hours of credit
  3. The Online Application is strongly encouraged.  Your application will be processed more quickly and you will be able to check its status online. Online Applications can be accessed at www.oar.uiuc.edu/prospective/ugrad/apply.html.
  4. All applicants are required to take the Basic Skills Test prior to applying.
NOTES
  1. Area of concentration electives should all be chosen from the same department: history, sociology, art, etc. (Nine additional hours will be required at the University of Illinois - a total of l8 hours is needed.)
  2. After receiving an Early Childhood Education degree and after teaching three months in the field, one can apply for state certification in Early Childhood Education.
  3. Early Childhood majors will be required to take an additional English composition class at the University of Illinois.
  4. All teacher certification majors are required to take a three (3) hour course in Third World or Non-Western Culture, either in Humanities or Social Science.  Recommended course is LITR111 (Non-Western Literature).
  5. Effective Fall 1992, new students or re-entering students absent more than two years and seeking an A.S.A. degree are required to take at least one course with human relations content.  See your counselor for a list of courses that fulfill this requirement.
  6. As of Fall 2000, transfer students who are beginning college freshmen in Fall 2000 or after must have completed the third year level of high school or third semester of college foreign language.
