 Transfer Admission Requirements

  1. 2.0 Grade Point Average (4.0 scale)
  2. Admission to the College of Education does not guarantee admission to the teacher education program.
  3. Different science sequences are required for each different area of specialization.  See your counselor to determine proper science classes.
ADMISSION TO THE TEACHER EDUCATION PROGRAM

Students are eligible to make formal application to the program with:

  1. A minimum of 30 semester hours of completed work.
  2. An overall grade point average of at least 2.75 (4.0 Scale).
  3. Completion of Rhetoric 101 and Rhetoric 102 with a grade of C or better.
  4. Three letters of recommendation from college or university faculty (transfer students may bring letters of recommendation from school(s) previously attended.
  5. Pass the Illinois Basic Skills Test.
  6. ACT score of at least 18.
NOTES
  1. Physical Education majors may specialize in Teacher Education, Athletic Training,  or Exercise Science and Physical Fitness.
  2. The above curriculum was designed for the Teacher Education specialization.  A counselor or an advisor should be consulted for specific degree requirements for the other specializations.
  3. A secondary concentration (the student may select the area) is recommended.  Minors are available in aquatics and coaching.
  4. All teacher certification majors are required to take a three (3) hour course in Third World or Non-Western Culture, either in Humanities or Social Science.
  5. Effective Fall 1992, new students or re-entering students absent more than two years and seeking an A.S.A. degree are required to take at least one course with human relations content.  See your counselor for list of courses that fulfill this requirement.
