Transfer Admission Requirements

  1. 2.0 Grade Point Average (4.0 scale)
ADMISSION CRITERIA TO THE TEACHER EDUCATION PROGRAM

It is recommended that students contact SIUC’s College of Education one year prior to transfer.  A student is eligible to make formal application to the program with:

  1. A minimum of 30 semester hours of completed work;
  2. An overall grade point average of at least 2.50 (4.0 scale);
  3. Completion of Rhetoric 101 and Rhetoric 102, and one additional English course (Literature Elective) with a grade of C or better;
  4. An ACT score of 18.  Conditional admission may be granted to students who do not meet ACT standards.
  5. Three letters of recommendation from college or university faculty (transfer students may bring letters of recommendation from school(s) previously attended).
NOTES
  1. Mathematics-College of Liberal Arts majors are required to take one (1) year of a foreign language; College of Science majors - three (3) years of high school foreign language or one (1) year of college foreign language.
  2. Mathematics Education majors are required to take SPCH 102-Public Speaking, PSYC 100-Intro. to Psychology, HLTH 101-Contemporary Health, POLI 150-American Government I, and HIST 152-U.S. History 1865 to Present and EDUC 101-Nature of Teaching Profession.  One literature elective is also required.
  3. Mathematics B.S. majors should choose PHYS 101 (General Physics:  Mechanics, Heat) as their physical science elective, and they should also take PHYS 102 (General Physics:  Electricity, Light, Modern Physics).
  4. Admission to the University does not guarantee admission to the Teacher Education Program. Students are required to pass the Basic Skills Test.
  5. DACC recommends a three (3) hour course in Third World or Non-Western Culture either in Humanities or Social Science.  It is required for teacher certification majors.
  6. Effective Fall 1992, new students or re-entering students absent more than two years and seeking an A.S.A. degree are required to take at least one course with human relations content.  See your counselor for list of courses that fulfill this requirement.
