Transfer Admission Requirements

  1. 2.0 Grade Point Average (4.0 scale)
  2. Admission to the College of Education does not guarantee admission to the teacher education program.
ADMISSION TO THE TEACHER EDUCATION PROGRAM

Students are eligible to make formal application to the program with:

  1. A minimum of 30 semester hours of completed work.
  2. An overall grade point average of at least 2.75 (4.0 Scale).
  3. Completion of ENGL 101 and ENGL 102 with a grade of ‘C’ or better.
  4. Three letters of recommendation from college or university faculty (transfer students may bring letters of recommendation from school(s) previously attended.
  5. Pass the Illinois Basic Skills Test.
NOTES
  1. Although a minor field is not required, English majors are encouraged to consider complementary minor fields such as foreign languages and literatures, history, philosophy, linguistics, speech communication, journalism, psychology, sociology, political science, African studies, Black American studies, theater, computer science, business administration and marketing.
  2. All TEP (teacher education program) students are required to have one year college credit in a single foreign language.  Also, the sciences should be selected from the following:  BIOL 104-Zoology, PHYS 114-Physical Geology, CHEM 101 College Chemistry I, and BIOL 150-Botany. ) (Choose 3.)
  3. All teacher certification majors are required to take a three (3) hour course in Third World or Non-Western Culture, either in Humanities or Social Science.
  4. Effective Fall 1992, new students or re-entering students absent more than two years and seeking an A.S.A. degree are required to take at least one course with human relations content.  See your counselor for a list of courses that fulfill this requirement.
